INTERVIEW – During the Super Cross Battles, the last stage before this Saturday’s live broadcast on TF1, the Vianney-trained singer opted to perform a title by Florent Pagny. If the performance was welcomed by the main stakeholder, the public vote did not allow him to qualify.
Tik Tok boom. A video on the TikTok platform and 2.3 million views later, Gautier passes the castings for “The Voice”. A blessing for this young man from Nancy who, in 2020, had left his medical studies to enter a music school. of a personality “very sensible”, as he defines himself, the singer had to fight the stress of his blind audition. His very “moving” interpretation of the song. A song for you by Donny Hathaway made three coaches turn around. Obviously, he joins Vianney’s team, which has “immediately surrounded”.

On stage, Gautier lives a musical adventure where each song advocates a message. This Saturday, waiting to access live, the candidate opted for emotion with To know love by Florent Pagny. A highlight that moved the original performer. Unfortunately, if Vianney judged that his talent had just given his best performance, the latter lost out to his friend Nour. Not without nostalgia, Gautier takes stock of this significant experience.
I FIGURE YOU. – What memory do you keep of this Super Cross Battles?
Gautier. – I lived this evening with exactly the same stress as in the Cross Battles but above all with less confidence in myself. The day before the bonus, we changed my entire performance at the last minute, the arrangement, the tone, and even the choreography… This fuss put a lot of pressure on me, but thanks to a lot of work, everything turned out well.
Why did you choose to interpret the title? To know love ?
I had to choose a title in French. I found that To know love It was a good continuation of my career in “La Voz”. On a personal level, the Super Cross Battles fell on the same day as my mom’s birthday. For me it was important to dedicate this song to him with the following message: when you know how to love, you know how to do everything.
Was it extra pressure to sing in front of Florent Pagny?
He was well aware of the risks, but the message could only be more beautiful. Once on stage, I no longer felt that pressure. When I interpret a title, I always try to make it my own and deliver a personal version. At the end of my performance, Florent Pagny really felt that I was telling him a story with my emotion. Even if I didn’t go live, the challenge was a success. It’s not just defeat (laughs).

What was your reaction when you found out that Nour would be your opponent?
We didn’t want to fall against each other because we get along so well. Being face to face, we would not go to live together. In a way, when I knew I was up against Nour, I knew I had lost.
Why did they convince you to abandon the adventure?
On “The Voice,” we quickly learn that song choice matters a lot. nour has chosen live for the best by Johnny Hallyday. His acting was incredible: the interpretation of the text, his voice, his technique, his emotion…. I felt very small next to him! In order not to leave completely lost, I told myself: “You’re there to sing, no matter what it takes… Show what you know how to do, even if it’s your last performance”.
“I consider Vianney a bit like a father”
How did you experience your elimination?
I was very happy for Nour without realizing that I was going to leave the adventure. The after “The Voice” is quite shocking, like a great adrenaline rush. From one day to the next and in a very brutal way, we went from dream to everyday life. It took me a while to get over it.
During this evening, we see you overwhelmed with emotion… What do you feel at that moment?
My emotional crisis begins when Vianney mentions my mother’s birthday. I was very afraid of disappointing my relatives, of calling them and not being able to tell them that she was going to live. Simultaneously, I also understand that it is about the farewell with Vianney, the talents. We are like a small family. He was even very attached to the set, he wanted to sing there again and again.

Throughout the adventure, you often mentioned your stress…
Honestly, I felt different kinds of stress. Before my blind audition, I was in a knot in my stomach, wanting to cry, afraid that no one would turn around. Going from step to step gives rise to another form of stress, that of leaving. I gained confidence, my desire to sing in front of an audience and with musicians could also create a fear of losing myself… Fortunately, Vianney helped me channel these anxieties.
What memories do you keep of your coaching sessions with Vianney?
Vianney is a great coach. I consider him a bit like a father. He immediately identified what kind of person I was and my lack of self-confidence. At every step, Vianney supported me, put me at ease, whether before going on stage or even after a performance. I will always remember one of his phrases after the Cross Battles where he asked me to say loud and clear that “I was home”. He doesn’t let go and fully plays the role of his coach.
What is your balance of your career in “The Voice”?
I have no excuses. I am super proud of my trip. Thanks to the adventure I was able to discover other facets of my voice and advocate for emotion, like during the Cross Battles with the title of John Lennon, conceived.
“After leaving medicine, I secretly enrolled in a music school”
What role does your mother play in your musical career?
My mom follows me thoroughly but she has no real influence on my career. We have a real bond of trust, I manage myself and she doesn’t interfere. If I make mistakes, her role is to let me learn at my own pace. She supports me in the best way.
You finished your medical studies, what was the trigger?
My mother works in the medical field, I’ve always been a bit immersed in that. After high school, I entered PACES (First Year Common to Health Studies, editor’s note) to get a job in security. I never imagined I had the potential to embark on a musical career. I did not prosper in medicine. I understood that I had to get into music and dedicate an important place to it.
A video on TikTok revealed to you, how did you get promoted to “The Voice”?
After this click, I secretly enrolled in a music school. To pay for this new education, I worked as a computer order picker and started TikTok at the same time. A month before I joined MAI, Music Academy International of Nancy, I posted a video where I sing in front of my mom. Now it has more than 2.3 million visits and “The Voice” saw me. After trying out the castings from the previous season, we decided that a year at music school would allow me to be technically prepared. A year later, as promised, they contacted me again for this eleventh season.
Looking back, was it wise to wait another year?
Yes! Honestly, I am very happy to have made this transition in school. I wouldn’t have gotten that far in the adventure. He needed this year of training to gain maturity. To do “La Voz”, you have to have the mind and the vocal technique.
What are your plans for the future?
On the recommendation of Bruno Berbères (casting director of “The Voice”), I will soon do a casting for a musical. I am also working with musicians on a possible future EP or album. In addition, I maintain a lot of my social networks to expand my community. Thanks to “The Voice”, my followers are increasing on TikTok and Instagram. Seeing some people disappointed to see me go tonight moves me. It makes me happy because, even after my loss, I feel that they will continue to support me in my future projects. As my mother says: “It is my destiny, the path is laid out, I just have to move on”.
