The Reds win at Villa Park! (1-2)
Vital victory for Liverpool, which finds its way to success on the pitch of Aston Villa! With forceps and thanks to Sadio Mané’s liberating goal in the second half, the Reds tied on points with Manchester City at the top of the Premier League. The Reds are still alive in the title race, but the Cityzens have their extra game to play and can be back in front tomorrow at Wolverhampton. What a suspense the end of the English season!
Aston Villa press to equalize
The Villains press hard in these final minutes. Reds defenders don’t cringe whenever they can. Buendía lays her head on him in a corner.
Minimum four minutes. An eternity for Liverpool.
Klopp very tense, and that’s normal
We feel a lot of tension on the Liverpool pitch. The Reds are ahead, but Klopp, a few meters from his bench, knows that a Villa goal can hurt very, very badly.
Villa thought they had tied!
Huge heat stroke for the Reds, while Ings had drilled Alisson with a low half volley! But luckily for Liverpool, the Villa striker is reported to be in an illegal position!
Keïta’s new firecracker!! (1-2)
Always well placed, the Guinean is on the lookout for a corner repelled in the axis by the defense of the villains. Keïta tries a hard shot from the right without control that, with effect, sees the frame slip by a few centimeters!!
Last change for Villa
Exhausted, Watkins returns to his bench. Former Lyonnais Bertrand Traoré enters for the last ten minutes.
Villa no longer achieves much
Now we only see Liverpool on the pitch, which increasingly suffocates the villains. Gerrard’s players gradually died out in this second period.
The Reds are looking for a break! (1-2)
Liverpool hits the accelerator hard, and looks for the KO goal. With a well-played half-volley, Mané forced Cash back narrowly down his line, before Matip’s header from a corner was caught by Martínez in the ensuing action!
Klopp responds with a change
The Egyptian pharaoh Salah enters the court to come and assist Luis Díaz. The Colombian, once again, has behaved very well for Liverpool.
New change made by Gerrard
Coutinho returns to the bench, replaced by Buendía, a record signing in Villa’s history (38 million euros).
Great release from Alisson!! (1-2)
The Villains’ immediate response was not far off! Found at the back of the Liverpool defence, Ings tries to steal the ball from him over Alisson, who has come at him, but the Reds goalkeeper places his whole body on the ground to counter the striker’s attempt!
It’s Mané’s 15th PL goal this season, a terrifyingly important achievement for Liverpool. If the score stayed there, the Reds would go back up to City (86 points).
MANEEEEEE, 1-2 FOR LIVERPOOL!!!!
Liverpool finally took the lead with a lightning attack, with Thiago lobbing Luis Diaz with a ball over the defense on the left. The Colombian fixes and then crosses to Mané, who makes the right gesture and fools Martínez with a perfect header without crossing!!
Liverpool respond calmly
Klopp, for his part, makes a change, and brings more experience to his midfield. Thiago arrives to take Jones’s place.
First change for the Villains
Applauded by his fans, Nakamba was replaced by Chukwuemeka in midfield.
Liverpool have scored 42 Premier League goals away from home this season, and failed to find the net in just one trip (a 1-0 loss at Leicester).
Alexander Arnold does not hang the frame
In exactly the same place as his last free kick, Alexander-Arnold tries his luck again directly. The Englishman with the magic right hand wants to surprise Martínez by sending a firecracker through the goalkeeper’s side, but he goes too far to the right.
very solid villa
Still in control, the Reds are trying to bring the danger to the surface of Martinez, but the Villans’ defense offers a great game. Jota is rarely seen, while Luis Díaz and Mané are closely watched.
Great return of Tsimikas
The Reds are off balance, skewered between the lines by McGinn’s pass. Ings launches Watkins from the right in the area, taking advantage of a superb return from Tsimikas, who comes to intervene.
Great look from Jones, seeing Luis Diaz’s deep call and looking for a cross. Martínez gets ahead of the striker in his area.
Great free kick by Alexander Arnold!! (1-1)
Free throw quickly obtained by the Reds. Alexander-Arnold takes care of him at 25 meters, slightly off center to the left. The English winger sends a mine whipped from the right that comes to lick Martínez’s skylight, which was beaten!!
He’s back in Birmingham! (1-1)
No changes to highlight at the break, we leave with the same. Let’s remember that Fabinho was already injured in the first half.
It’s the break at Villa Park! (1-1)
End of this first half at a very high pace, where the two teams spared no effort. In the heart of the totally crazy first ten minutes, Joël Matip (6th) responded to the first goal from Douglas Luiz (3rd). Forced to win tonight, the Reds missed many opportunities to outplay the dangerous Villans in fits and starts.
Reds Naughty Corner
Last corner for the Reds, while the pace has (finally) slowed down a bit. From the right, Alexander-Arnold looks for Jota towards the second post, whose turn to the opposite again is close to benefiting Mané. This combination was finely played.
Three additional minutes are announced by the fourth official.
Horizontal of Martinez!! (1-1)
Very poor recovery by Nakamba in a ball out of the Villans, intercepted by Jones. The Reds midfielder quickly fires into a forehand spin from 20 meters, which Martinez takes advantage of at the cost of a beautiful fly!
Luis Diaz rocked by Digne
Luis Díaz and Digne continue to give a very bitter duel in this first half. In the aerial duel, the Frenchman put a good header on his rival, involuntarily. Díaz will receive treatment at the edge of the lawn
What a miss from Keïta!! (1-1)
Ooooh, the Guinean can blame himself for this great opportunity! Served on a plateau by Alexander-Arnold, with a pass glued to the ground, Keïta has all the freedom to resume without control, but he misses his shot on the right from the penalty spot!
Fearsome sequence of the Digne-Coutinho duo on the left, the last city requesting the one-two at the right tempo. From a distance, the former Barcelonan then takes advantage with a strong shot that goes over the top.
Goal denied to Keïta
At the end of a superb collective action, made up of small touch passes, Keïta took advantage of a discount from Luis Díaz to push the ball into the empty goal. But the Colombian was offside at the start.
The great tile for Liverpool
A very bad one for Klopp at the end of the Reds season: touched, Fabinho will not be able to continue. Henderson replaces him. The Brazilian does not seem to be devastated, but he must necessarily be thinking about his team’s next big deadlines in this crucial month of May.
While it is the Villains’ turn to push hard, the game is interrupted. Fabinho fell to the ground, visibly embarrassed on the back of his left thigh.
Ings not far from the second !! (1-1)
Villa has a left corner. It is played in two stages, and towards McGinn in retreat. His center is good towards the surface, where Ings emerges to get ahead of Alisson, and resume with a whim that happens very little!
Alisson is very scared.
Facing a withdrawal from Fabinho, Alisson makes a most surprising choice and searches for his partner again. But he sends the ball directly to Watkins who was coming at him, who luckily he can’t control. Otherwise, it was the guaranteed goal!
Mané already saw it in her!! (1-1)
What a center from Tsimikas from the left, who hits his ball, deposited on Mané’s head. The Senegalese puts her where she comes from, but her helmet shot goes a few centimeters from the post!!
Villa emerges in disaster
Tsimikas has a free kick that looks like a left corner. Well the center of the Greek side towards Matip in the area, whose header reaches an opponent. A bit in disarray, the Aston Villa defense manages to emerge.
Van Dijk looks for a long ball from Luis Díaz towards the local area. In battle, Digne beats the Colombian and relieves his side by clearing. The Reds have been pushing hard for a few minutes.
A worthy very good night
Digne is very busy in his left lane and offers effective raises. It is the Frenchman who is at the center of Douglas Luiz’s first goal. The tricolor international takes advantage of this time with a half volley that flies away.
First ten minutes of fire
We don’t have time to breathe in those first ten minutes. Villa Park has already had many opportunities to catch fire, the pace is hellish. There is not the slightest downtime.
INCREDIBLE, MATIP AND THE SAME, 1-1!!!!
What a start to the game! After a foul played in the area, there is a huge mess on the surface of the villains. On an attempt by Van Dijk deflected by Martinez, Matip dives full length to enter the trajectory and place the ball in the back of the net!!!
THE COLD SHOWER FOR LIVERPOOL, 1-0 FOR VILLA!!!
The reds are already taking the broth, despite a decisive Alisson twice in a row on their line in less than a minute. But after a first header repelled by Douglas Luiz, the Brazilian goalkeeper can do nothing against his rival who comes to resume at close range!! Klopp is prostrate in front of his bench.
The red ones to give up or double down
In the final stretch of their incredible season, with the Champions League final against Real Madrid on May 28, Liverpool have a double or lose tonight. His dream of a quadruple, still possible, is conditional on a positive result against the Villains of Steven Gerrard, former Reds legend.
Let’s go to Birmingham! (0-0)
It is the Reds who kick off this key game for Jürgen Klopp’s players!
Kick-off is imminent!
The players enter the pitch at Villa Park, accompanied by the match official, Jonathan Moss.
