Will gasoline soon be cheaper in France than in Belgium? When the trend reverses

As we know, inflation has a great impact on households. This is particularly the case for gasoline and diesel. Therefore, motorists look for the cheapest gas station. For a long time, it was located in Belgium. But it may not be so anymore.

As of September 1, gasoline will drop to €1.50 per liter in France. This reduced price is possible thanks to a tax reduction decided by the French State as well as a reduction granted by TotalEnergies at its service stations. It is a reduction of 30 cents that the State will finally apply. For its part, TotalEnergies has announced that it will reduce its price per liter by 20 cents at its service stations.

In Belgium, everything suggests that it will not be possible to match these prices… In the best of cases, the State could still reduce taxes by 9.5 cents. But the TotalEnergies group does not foresee any reduction there at the moment. Many Belgians are already planning to come to refuel in France.

Generally cheaper in France

However, before, the situation was the other way around. If the stereotype of cheaper gasoline in Belgium still seems to persist for now, it doesn’t seem so true anymore. In most cases, gasoline 95 (E10) and diesel (B7) are already cheaper in France, by a few cents.

Mouscron and Wattrelos They are less than ten kilometers from each other. A ridiculous distance for most of the inhabitants of Mouscron who would surely not hesitate to go to refuel on the other side of the border. This is not extremely interesting for gasoline 95 (E10). At Mouscron, the least expensive pumps (Gabriëls, PMO and Shell Express) are posting, this week, €1,759 of the litre, against €1,746 per liter in Wattrelos, in E.Leclerc, a difference of one penny.

On the other hand, the difference is felt in the price of diesel (B7). shown in €1,872 per liter in Gabriëls, PMO and Shell Express, while E.Leclerc offers this fuel in €1,786 per liter

Tournai and Saint-Amand-les-Eaux They are more distant municipalities, about twenty kilometers from each other. But some motorists will surely be ready to do these few kilometers. On the one hand, in Tournai, the cheapest service station (Esso) exhibits €1,803 per liter for gasoline 95 (E10) and €1,903 liter for diesel (B7). With us, gasoline 95 (E10) costs only €1,708 liters and diesel (B7) €1,773 per liter

The situation is not the same Comines-Warneton and Armentieres. With us, the difference is less. Diesel (B7) costs €1,879 per liter at Gabrëls in Warneton, against €1,870 at the intersection of Armentières. On the other hand, the situation is reversed for gasoline 95 (E10). Gabriels sign in Warneton €1,769 per liter while Esso Express in Armentières counts €1,821 of the litre.

A share of E.Leclerc

This price difference is explained in particular by the action currently being carried out by the E.Leclerc brand. A few days ago, the retail store decided to repeat its action on the price of gasoline. From July 28 to 30, E.Leclerc offers gasoline at cost price.
