This Tuesday, August 23, 2022, TF1 broadcasts the fourth season of “Mask Singer” with, still on the jury, Kev Adams. Accustomed to television shows, the young comedian has been running the show for many years. And if you are followed by a loyal audience, another part of the viewers is always more severe. Criticism that Kev Adams has received for a long time in silence…
Remember: in 2010, a 19-year-old, fresh out of high school, caused a sensation on the France 2 program, “On n’demand qu’en rire.” Every night, in front of Laurent Ruquier’s teams, Kev Adams multiplies sketches directly inspired by the torments of his adolescence. This is the beginning of a beautiful story with the French public. The problem is that Kev Adams has been away from this restless teenage character ever since. And that, some people find it hard to admit…

Kev Adams at the center of strong criticism since his debut
It’s hard to get rid of such a tenacious image. Kev Adams knows something about it. Since his inception, he has often been the center of strong criticism and debates on social networks, mocked by certain Internet users little seduced by his humor. So the principal in question chose to use it. In 2021, he thus starred in the movie “Haters”, in which he played the character of a YouTuber who is the target of online hate, who ends up meeting his haters. Until then, Kev Adams had always preferred silence in the face of the waves of criticism he received. But the movie opened Pandora’s box. So, in an interview with Télé Loisirs, it was natural for him to trust the hate messages he has always been the subject of: “My report is quite simple, I would even say quite healthy. I read the messages they send me from time to time. When it’s love, I respond with love. When it’s hate, I just try to ignore it.”
Unfortunately, “Haters” gave way to other reviews. This time about the movie “Retirement House”, in which Kev Adams acted and which unfortunately was not at all unanimous on the side of the specialized press… and the general public. Hard then for the 31-year-old comedian not to take things personally. “Being a little divisive is not a concern, but, in my case, people systematically write words that go beyond simple criticism. I receive a verbal violence that few artists experience,” he lamented on this subject in the columns of Télé 7 days. And to share his misunderstanding: “I try to protect myself, but it’s complicated. I find it hard to understand why. It’s not for lack of questioning.”
Over time, Kev Adams had no choice but to protect himself from the torrent of hate, as he confided to the Parisian last April: “These criticisms reach me less and less. Celebrating the good reviews and the bad ones, the I read because I don’t want to cut myself off from the world, but I move on quickly.”
“They told me I had the melon”
In addition to criticism of his sketches and the movies he acts in, Kev Adams is often criticized for his personality. In 2019 for example, when he was invited by Thomas Sotto on the RTL waves, the humorist confronted him with his “double reputation”: celle “d’être très drôle, mais aussi de ne pas toujours être very nice”. “To show off a bit. Did you get the melon or not?” he had dropped Thomas Sotto. And Kev Adams to answer, a little bewildered: “That’s what they told me, yes, that I had the melon. Frankly, it’s super difficult to tell. Let’s talk to each other very frankly, you to say ‘no’ today could lying. I think there were times in my life where maybe I didn’t realize how lucky I was. So I was kind of out of touch with reality. I don’t feel like I was aware of it.”
And as if to justify himself, Kev Adams had spoken precisely of the violent criticism suffered since the beginning of his career: “Of course it affects you, it hurts you. When you do this job and start young, it’s not like that.” I don’t want to live on it. When I started, the star system, the critics, the press, the money… I had no idea about all that. But sure, there are times when I may have misbehaved a little bit and I apologize for that.”

Added to this is the difficulty of maintaining a healthy relationship with your image as you grow up in the spotlight. Even more so when one is constantly criticized for what he is. Also on this subject, Kev Adams has already confided his difficulties: “When I started in this job, I was very young and every time I see images of my debut, I get a big blow from yesteryear. I’m entering my thirties.” with difficulty I have more and more problems with my physique “. Especially since the young man is already coming back from afar. As a child he had to endure bullying from his peers, as he explained on the Clique program: “I know what it means to be stigmatized, to be Left aside. I was overweight when I arrived in Neuilly. They called me ‘bouboule.’ Today, Kev Adams tries to reconcile himself with the image of him, far from criticism …
