Tens of thousands of Britons are in London on Wednesday to pay their respects to Queen Elizabeth II ahead of her funeral next Monday. The coffin of the monarch, who died Thursday at the age of 96 at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, was found Tuesday night in the British capital. After a final night at Buckingham Palace, the remains were transferred to Westminster Hall, Britain’s oldest house of parliament, after a solemn procession through central London. Find the highlights of this event.
an impressive procession
A serious atmosphere took over the British capital before the start of the solemn procession, with a millimetric process. The Imperial Crown, made in 1937 and adorned with 2,868 diamonds, was placed on the oak coffin of Queen Elizabeth II. He was transported on a horse-drawn carriage flanked by soldiers in ceremonial dress. The march was held to the sound of funeral marches for Beethoven, Mendelssohn and Chopin performed by a military band.

Elizabeth’s four sons in the same line, William and Harry side by side
The coffin left the palace at 3:22 p.m., followed on foot by Isabel’s four children and, in the second row, by her grandchildren William and Harry, supposedly cold but side by side for this historic event. Note that Prince Andrew, stripped of his royal titles, and Prince Harry are parading in civilian clothes, not military uniform.
